Dear CSS Digital Customers
Are you ready to say Goodbye to Windows XP?
You may already know that Microsoft have announced they will no longer support Windows XP and Office 2003 after the 8th April 2014.
What will this mean for you?
Will my Windows XP PCs just stop working? No – but Without critical updates, your PCs will become more susceptible to attacks that take advantage of vulnerabilities. These attacks can not only cause downtime but can also put your customers’ information or your own business data at risk. Our ability to rebuild your PC after infection or corruption becomes increasingly difficult.
What will happen to my other programs? Most software and hardware vendors will no longer support products that are running on Windows XP, as they are unable to get Windows XP and Office 2003 updates. You will find suppliers like Sage will no longer support their software on Windows XP PCs. The current version of Microsoft Office 2013 will already not work with Windows XP.
Can I upgrade to my Windows XP to Windows7? Perhaps – Windows 7 is a more complex (and secure) version of Windows and requires certain (higher) minimum hardware specification. We have found that any computer which is more than 2 years old will probably not be suitable or the cost of the upgrade makes it uneconomical. Windows 7 requires at least 1Gb of Ram memory and runs much better with 4Gb. If your PC is already running slow with Windows XP it will run even slower with Windows 7.
We know many of you have taken proactive action and have been replacing you outdated Windows XP PCs over the last few months. However, if you still have Windows XP PCs (which many companies do) you will find the availability and prices of New Replacement PCs become increasingly restrictive over the next couple of months. If you are thinking about new computers you need to act now and not wait till the April Deadline.
Here at CSS Digital, we know that once the Microsoft Support stops so will many software vendors Support, just because the Windows XP operating system will be ruled “unsafe”. The vendors will simply stop developing versions of their programs to run with XP. So even if you do decide to go past the “XP Deadline” you will find your PC less and less functional over time. We have no intention of stopping our Telephone and Remote Contracted Support for Windows XP, but even our ability to provide fixes and solutions will become increasingly limited.
If you would like to discuss your options please get in touch and I will be more than happy to go over the different options and solutions we can offer.
